The Sources:
Montague Summers :
"The Vampire in Europe" [1929]
Kegan Paul, Trench, Trubner & Co., London, 1929
The Case:
Unfortunately our source, Montague Summers, hasn't an awful lot to say about this case :
"At Zarnesti after a female vampire had been exhumed great iron forks were driven through the heart, eyes, and breast after which the body was buried at a considerable depth, face downwards."
The Date:
Sadly, Mr. Summers does not give us a date, so all we can say is that things must have taken place before 1929, the publication date of the book.
The Place:
I did find a small place called Zarnesti, not very far to the SouthWest of Brasov. It seems like a likely candidate for our location.
Possible Follow-Up:
I know, this looks like nothing at all. Should that stop us ? You would be amazed if you knew how far you can get with only minimal information like this to start from. That is the thing that I am trying to tell you. That indeed is the kind of research that I am trying to encourage.
