The Source:

Annett Stülzebach:
"Vampir- und Wiedergängererscheinungen aus volkskundlicher und archäologischer Sicht"
from: "Concilium medii aevi" 1 (1998)

The Case

In 1922 archaeological research took place in a burial field in Göda. Iron nails were found with at least 4 of the corpses. Their position seems to indicate that they had originally been hammered through various body parts. An iron needle was found between the ribs, close to the heart. The nails had obviously been meant to fix the corpses to prevent them coming out of their graves. The needle seems to have been stuck into the corpse's heart.

The Date:

Sadly no date is given for the graves.

The Place:

Göda can be found in Germany, near Bautzen, close to the Polish and the Czechian border.

Possible Follow-Up:

First check Stülzebach's version. Than find her source: K.Herbach "Skelettfunde in der Schanze bei Göda", in: "Bautzener Geschichtshefte", 1925.
