The Source:

W. Mannhardt :
"Die praktischen Folgen des Aberglaubens"
Edition Geheimes Wissen, Graz, Austria, 2007

The Case:

In May 1870, in the village of Beelitz near Bromberg, the authorities stopped an attempt to dig up the corpse of a woman. The dead woman, when still alive, appears to have been telling fortune by laying out the cards. Shortly after her death three of her relatives had died. So people must have suspected her of having become a Nachzehrer.

The Date:

The event is reported to have taken place in 1870 in the merry month of May.

The Place:

Our source mentions the village of Beelitz, near Bromberg. Beelitz has been renamed to Bielice, and Bromberg is now called Bydgoszcz. It can be found about halfway between Gdansk and Poznan.

Possible Follow-Up:

You could start with reading the account by Mannhardt. And then, of course, you could see if it is possible to find back the case in the old German newspapers from 1870.
