Being the kind of absolutely hopeless skeptics that we are, we could not help feeling that it would be both appropriate and relevant to reserve a little bit of space for a small selection of books on the always fascinating subject of "Superstition". I have to confess that to me the difference between religion and supserstition does not always seem very clear. So there have been times when it wasn't easy to select the appropriate section to put the books into.

Hanns Bächtold-Stäubli & Eduard Hoffmann-Krayer (Ed.) :

"Handwörterbuch des deutschen Aberglaubens" [1927]

An absolutely brilliant set of massive and extremely informative books that cover, in alphabetical order, each and every aspect of superstition and popular belief for those countries where German is the language. I am ever so glad that someone has had the good thought to reprint this rare and hard to get masterpiece.

Very interesting anthology with many fascinating articles, some of them in English. The only thing that I could possibly find wrong with it is the lack of an index, but that - sadly - is something that is usually missing in this type of publication. Otherwise, it is an absolutely brilliant book.
